DENHAM the Jeanmaker

I was instantly attracted by this denim store when I walked in the heart of 9 street neighbourhood in Amsterdam.

I have to say the interior design looks very much like a Japanese boutique. The store is so bright (even on a not-so-sunny-day) and neat with a hint of woodwork in it. And I’m very impressed by their meticulous attention to detail. There’s a big glass cupboard at the cash-counter that contains all kinds of accessories for your tailor-made jeans, from a button to the leather badge at the back of your jeans.

Right next to the store is the design studio…

I was forbidden to take any pictures in the store because the store assistant told me that I could find literally “everything” in their website…

So I went to their website… and it was even more impressive!

I was too busy secretly taking pictures of the shop and asking the shop assistant for some interesting facts so I didn’t really look closely at the garments… The assistant told me that the owner has a partner from Japan so they import the finest denim from Japan and Italy and hence the “Japanese” style…

but their website really intrigued me a lot and makes me wonder around for a whole hour! Their concept of their designs all come from the utility-tailoring approach, meaning the designs are originally for certain purpose, then they altered and re-immersed them into what they have now.

I particularly like this denim “Boro Kimono” which originally was made and worn by Japanese workers who travel from place to place in World War 2 and the 3D sleeves of these coats.

The “Wavell” is a reversible spring jacket inspired by the fencing doublet.

“the Genie evolves” is perfect for spring and summer with the light colour and texture; the seasonal khaki fabric is a must for the fashionista!

You know there’re many poles in the streets of Amsterdam, and each of them has “xxx” on it. Denham cleverly promote themselves by making covers for the poles outside the stores with their signature scissors on it.

When I walked out of the store… the only thing I keep thinking is “How can the store be so perfect?”

Money?

Right… you can hire people to design and develop every detail of the store and all the products for you but then it won’t be YOUR shop…

Talents?

But if you have all the concepts and designs in your mind and without the money you still can’t produce anything…

My conclusion is there’s no easy way to be perfect…

SO get your ass moving and work if you have all the talents in you!!! =p

SEXXX SELLS

In Amsterdam, not only sexxx sells, all the things the Dutch find unnecessary at home are also for sale on Queen’s Day!

I’m just kidding in my earlier post about vandalism becoming legal in Amsterdam… =p

People are actually marking their spaces on Amsterdam’s streets for the FREE MARKET (Vrijmarkt) on Queen’s Day

(this is in fact 7 in the morning… people are already getting ready for their own spaces!)

But the free market is more of a social occasion than a real commercial activity for neighbors and visitors to enjoy the special day…

The Orange ATTACK is undoubtedly inevitable on Queen’s Day…

Children take an active part in the street market, there is even a children-only market in Vondel Park (the largest park in Amsterdam) where adults can only be the customers.

How great is this idea of selling stuff on the street on a national holiday instead of BUYING commercial merchandise FOR the holiday!

Imagine how much money we can save if we can sell (or exchange) our Christmas ornaments from last year or the Christmas presents you never want on Christmas day instead of chipping in money for the over-priced Christmas presents! haha! How genius again YOU Dutch!

People LET’S DO IT!!

I’m SERIOUS!!!

Look, I can still buy new stuff (with the money from selling my unwanted stuff at home)!

and you never know! Your rubbish can always be others’ treasure!

(ok… maybe I’m a bit too excited here… the free market can never replace real shopping… haha!)

Queen’s Night 2010 Amsterdam

THE most amazing street parties I’ve ever been.

“Long live the QUEEN!”

Long live the QUEEN!

The Queen has finally made vandalism legal in Amsterdam??? HURRAY!!!

“BEZET DE BEST PLEK!” (Translation: “Best policy EVER!”)

“Long live the QUEEN!”

“LET’S Get the PARTY started!!!”

Lost & Found!

I was saying “I’m lost in Amsterdam!” when I spotted [STOUT!]

Guess getting lost is not so bad in Amsterdam afterall!

Nice environment both inside and outside the cafe

How genius of the Amsterdammers! Using the “should-be” useless basement rooftop as the comfortable lying area!

(but mind you! customers like me can lie there all day with just a cup of coffee =p)

Honestly I don’t expect high quality food from a cafe but this rivioli stuffed with spinache and ricotta with sage-buttersauce is REALLY good!!! So is the duck breast salad with truffle dressing at the back!!!

Highly recommand this cafe if you want some quality food with reasonable price (anytime of the day) or just a coffee break in this nice little neighbourhood!

A Clockwork Orange

I think I’ll actually like orange the colour if I stay in Amsterdam long enough!

But my close friends will be so surprised if they see this, because I really hate orange… especially the bright orange… (please don’t hate me my dear Amsterdammers!)

But it’s really so hard to avoid the colour because it’s literally EVERYWHERE!!! Argh!!!!!!

The sunglasses have to be in orange…

The whole outfit has to be in orange… even the lipstick!!!

Does the hair of our beloved punk queen (of Amsterdam) has to be in orange too???

OMG this is literally an orange overflow!!!

Ok done with orange for now more Amsterdam tmr!
